Japanese Classical Doily #23

Diane reminded me of a Japanese pattern which I wanted to tat. I wonder if this is the same one Diane was talking about.

The pattern is from this Japanese book on page 28 and 78. I love the design but it is a pattern that is not so easy to tat, however once you get the design structure it should be easy. It is a lot of rings to tat. This is tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 in #682 Country Grape Dark and measures about 4.5 inches across. It took approximately 2m for Round 1 and 16m for Round 2. I wonder if I will continue with the next part to build the doily.

  1. Very nice. Yes, think about finishing it off. Like you said, now that you understand the design structure, I am sure you'll 'nail it'! Happy Tatting.

  2. the daunting part seems to be the space/length of thread between the rounds of rings. how did u get them right? it looks amazing.

  4. It so beautiful! Which book is it from? The link might not be working. Even if you don't continue it, the first part looks stunning on its own. Thank you for showing it!

  5. That's a beautiful pattern, and you have done an outstanding job of keeping all those thread spaces the right lengths. It looks great!

  6. What a lovely doily, I love the pattern looks like you have been going around in rings.
I was watching Singapore on the TV this afternoon and thinking of you, I am a F1 fan and will be watching tomorrow and its my team on pole, I hope he will win and hopefully Button will come up and get in the top three.
I saw the garden trees that you showed us a few weeks ago, they looked so lovely I wish I could go out there and see them in the flesh.

  7. I do like this very much.

I am one of those tatters that actually likes the bare thread type of pattern a lot - like the butterfly Gina designed.

Yes, I think this is worth trudging on! I would love to see the rest of it.

  9. Thank you for all your wonderful comments.

I used a picot gauge to ensure the thread spaces are about uniform in length.

The book is called Tatting Lace by Sumi Fujishige (publshed in 2010).

The pattern is very pretty and very unusual. I love the look of it but not the tatting process. At the moment I do not think I will do the next round.

Margaret, So glad you enjoyed the F1. Although Button did not win, he did a good job.
