Tasty Veg

What is that?

A dish we tried in Bangkok
(besides the pineapple fried rice, grilled fish and tom yum soup that came in a steamboat with no fire.)

I love this fried vegetable. First time having this and it was very good. It is actually stir fried flower buds of Telosma cordata or the Tonkin creeper.

Pattern #24

I think it is meant to be a wristlet. This pattern is found on page 25 & 26 of Tatting Lace Corsage & Accessories by Emiko Kitao.

Tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 in Ocean Sunset Col. 155. In this colour thread, the 3D rings are not so obvious. You may be able to see it better in the second photo. Any suggestions on how else this can be used as?

Have you seen this?
This is not just a lipstick imprint

What has lipstick got to do with deforestation?

Pattern #2

I really wanted to try this. Again it started out like an edging. The large picots were not fun to tat.

If you string the loose thread between the bare threads and tie a knot, you get the above.

Somehow it did not look like the photo in the book.

I then tried to pin and block it but
I wasn't going to pin every picot, no way!

It still did not look like the one in the book.

With extra thread in the shuttle, I decided to add more rings to make the flower fuller and hopefully prettier.

But to no avail. I believe I made it worse.
I am hesitant to try the second version of this.

Clifford Pier

When Clifford Pier was operational, ferries which ply the route to the neighbouring islands in Singapore, started their journey here. More info on Clifford Pier can be found here.

These days, it is a restaurant of The Fullerton Bay Hotel. The hotel is located in a new building next to Clifford Pier.

I was there with a friend for afternoon tea.
The 'moonstone brooch' can be found here.

Moonstone Jewellery

This reminded me of moonstones of a brooch.
But it is actually a wall light fixture in the ladies' restroom.
Where?

Find out soon!

Peach Flowers

Thank you for your comments on my post about the new tatting books. Jane's comment was hilarious. I am now contemplating just browsing through. But before I read her comment, I had done this.

This is the first pattern from Tatting Lace Corsage & Accessories by Emiko Kitao. It starts out like an edging. To create the flower, just string the loose thread through the gaps between the chains, tie a knot and cut.

Tatted in Lizbeth size 40 in Col. 630 Peach Light and Col. 188 Coral Splash.

Find the Ant

I love this plant. The white flowers are so striking.
Often planted by the road.

Looks pretty in large pots by your door too.
It does need lots of sun.

Its name: Wrightia antidysenterica 'Arctic Snow'.

New Tatting Books

I was at Kinokuniya at Bugis Junction. It has been years since I was there. I thought I needed some inspiration for tatting. While browsing through the books, I liked the 3D effect of some of the patterns. One can never have enough pattern books. I know I have some books I bought last year which I have not tatted from.

Both books are by Emiko Kitao published by Applemints: Tatting Lace Corsage & Accessories 2015 and Tatting Lace Flower Accessories 2016.

Hopefully, you will see some tatting soon. Maybe something small.

I Can Dream

I want this in my home!

Can we make it happen?

Mini Pineapples

This was on sale at a street night market in Melaka.
No, I did not try it but I guess it could be sweet and juicy.

It takes time and effort to carve out the 'eyes' of the pineapple.

Award Winning Landscape

This won People's Choice Award for this Fantasy and Landscape Show Garden called 'The Treasure Box'. It was designed by Inch Lim from Malaysia. The walls were lined with rice plants. A green oasis with a mini waterfall and stream.

Woven Picot Bookmark

I had to use a paper clip to hold the picots after weaving. I think my picots were a little too short so the weaving was a little tricky. Ensure that the picots are not twisted before joining. This will make the weaving flat and pretty.

After blocking, the weaving looked fine but the ends of the bookmark had picots which were too large. I got a little carried away. What do you think? I would have preferred the end chains to be shorter with normal sized picots.

Green and Lush Bathroom

I would prefer it to be a more natural landscape, even in the bathroom but this would do fine too. It will be easy to water the plants. As you shower, the plants get a shower too. It reminded me of the  private outdoor shower in our hotel in Ubud, Bali.

Woven Picot Pattern

As I was looking for a pattern to tat, I came across this from Carollyn's blog. A bookmark pattern by Marrie Stoffer.

This is my progress so far. This side of the bookmark is rather straight forward and I agree with Carollyn that it is simpler than it looks. Wait till I get to the other side.

Burnt to a crisp
Served up with bean sprouts and lard cubes
Nice crunch
Strange but delicious!

Art Nouveau Pouch Pattern

It was planned to get larger than this but it proved too fiddly for me.

After each motif, it had to be blocked before I could continue. Otherwise, the chains and rings did not sit flat. Perhaps in Size 20, the situation will improve a little. This pattern is from Tomoko Morimoto's book New Tatting on page 87. Done in Lizbeth Size 40 Ocean Sunset Col. 155 and Violet / Pink dark Col. 635. I do like the colours and the pattern design that it makes, like little windows.

These days, I'm in no mood to tat. I hope the situation will improve. Have not tatted much. I have been doing a lot of shopping though.

Flowers and Leaves

The flowers were easy to spot but did you see the leaves on the large vases?

Flower Installations

Play of lights with a flower spiral

Reminded me of a starfish,
But perhaps an alien starfish

Sometimes I think I should leave the camera / phone at home and just enjoy what the eye sees in that moment

Block Star

This pattern is from Tatting Times Volume 24 Issue 3 August 2015 by Karey Solomon. Tatted in Flora Size 20 thread Col. 208. The subscription to Tatting Times was a gift from a friend. Thank you C.

I am again scouring my pattern books for something interesting to tat. Any suggestions, Tatters? Something small which I can complete before I get bored.
