It is finally done. It did not take too long and I really enjoyed tatting this. Tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 in Col. 633 Purple Dark, Col. 641 Lilac Dark, Col. 162 Purple Iris Fusion and Col. 646 Purple Iris Light (from centre out).
Margaret tatted the onion ring snowflake here and I really liked how she used a darker thread for the inner ring. I decided to try it myself. Tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 River Blue Medium Col. 708 and Ocean Turquoise Dark Col. 657 (top); Sea Island Citrus Col. 161 and Ocean Turquoise Dark Col. 657 (bottom). The pattern can be found on Georgia Seitz's online tatting class website here.
I used the same variegated thread Lizbeth Size 40 Purple Iris Fusion Col. 162 for Round 10. Now measuring about 14 inches across. One more round in this variegated thread before I switch colours again.
These jade earrings were set by a jeweller friend. I bought these jade pieces thinking I could wire them myself using the 14K gold filled findings but decided to get them done by the professional instead. I am glad I did. These are set in 22K gold and tiny green garnets. The carved jade pieces measure about 1.5 inches and drop about 2 inches with the ear hooks. These earrings can be worn on either sides depending on your mood or outfit.
I forgot to join the picots in the central rings of the top motif and the long picots were not consistent in length. I decided to redo and tatted the bottom one. It was a breeze when it is fresh in your mind. Two more rounds to go.
As usual, I overdid it with the blocking. It is a pretty pattern by Ha Mi-Kyoung on page 86 of her book. I used Lizbeth Size 40 in Col. 129 Purple Splendour and it is tatted in one round with two shuttles. In hers, she used two different colours. Love her version too.
The ending was a little tricky. I am sure I made a mistake at the end with the top motif. Just that it is not obvious. I do like the intertwined long picots.
It was tat, unpick, tat, unpick, tat unpick, tat! The second motif with beads showed the mistake at the ends so I had to tat and re-tat several times. I wanted to figure it out myself although you could follow the video with the QR code in the Ha Mi-Kyoung book.
Top is tatted in Lizbeth Size 40 Col. 185 Artic Waters. Love this colourway. Bottom is tatted with Miyuki Delica beads DB622.
It has split into two from the previous post as I made a mistake in not joining Round 2 to Round 1. Three more rounds to tat for each. Blocking is needed after each round. Hopefully the different colour threads will help you see the separate rounds.
I was surprised to see this outside The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. It was a most pleasant find. It was a hot afternoon but the ocean breeze made it a little more comfortable. Such a pretty sight. It is located below the ArtScience Museum. Can you spot the Merlion?
I remember a water lily pond just beside the Kandang Kerbau Hospital. I wonder if it is still there.
